See what a photo says,
then take it out.

Drop a photo to see the metadata it carries — where it was taken, on what, and when — and download a copy without it. Everything happens in this tab; the photo is never uploaded.

JPEG, PNG and WebP.

what is and is not changed

The metadata is cut out of the file; the picture is not decoded or compressed again. Its colour profile stays, so the colours do not shift, and a photo taken sideways keeps the one tag that stands it upright.

The photo is read and cleaned in this tab, and nothing leaves your device.

Once the photo is clean

A photo cleaned before it is shared is usually about to be sent, and the next question is its size.

Questions

Does removing the metadata make the photo worse?

No. The metadata sits in its own parts of the file, and those parts are cut out; the picture is never decoded or compressed again. The page checks this after cleaning — the clean file’s picture data is compared with the original’s, byte for byte.

Why is the orientation kept?

Because a phone often stores a portrait photo sideways and relies on that one tag to show it upright. Without it the clean copy would come out lying on its side. It says which way to turn the picture and nothing about you.

Why is the colour profile kept?

Because it decides the colours. Phones shoot in a wider colour space than the web default, and a photo without its profile looks duller. It holds no personal data.

What about HEIC photos from an iPhone?

This page does not clean HEIC. Converting a HEIC to JPEG on this site removes its metadata by default, and the JPEG can then be checked here.
