developer desk · base64 & url encoder
Base64 and URL encoding, both ways.
Encode text as Base64, Base64URL or a URL component, or decode it back. Text that is not ASCII — accents, emoji — comes back exactly as it went in. Runs in this tab.
Text is read and written as UTF-8, so “çağrı 👋” survives the round trip. A decode that fails says where it stopped.
Once it is decoded
If what you decoded was part of a token, the JWT decoder reads all three parts at once.

What is the difference between Base64 and Base64URL?
Two characters and the padding. Base64 uses + and / and ends with = signs; Base64URL uses - and _ and usually drops the = signs, so the result can sit in a web address or a JWT without being escaped.
Why does my decoded text say it is not text?
Because the bytes it holds are not UTF-8 — often it is a file, such as an image, encoded as Base64. The page says where the bytes stopped being text rather than showing garbled characters.
